Pattern Reviews

A new feature for my blog is to review patterns that I have knit or crocheted. I usually use free patterns available on Ravelry.com or through blogs, but I also use patterns that I received as a gift, free for a limited time offer, or in a book. I have only purchased a few patterns from Ravelry, but I will disclose in the review if it is a free pattern or a pay-for-pattern with a link to the designer's page or blog.

In addition to knitting or crocheting the pattern, I will be discussing yarn choices and what happened to my project using a yarn that is not necessarily the recommended yarn. Like many, I cannot afford some of the luxury yarn that others use. I have noticed that a lot of the new designers are using Hand-painted (hand-dyed) yarn, yarn that is not easily available, or is just too expensive. I use acrylic and cotton a lot because that is what is available and what I can afford at this time. This affects the patterns in unusual ways. Most of the time, I have found that even though the yarn might be considered the same weight (i.e. Bulky) it will not work the same at all and you might end up with a project a lot smaller than you planned.

Stay tuned for some new reviews in 2020.
